Did you catch us on '60 Minutes'?
The episode stars our students and recounts our founding days.
Last night, while visiting family on Cape Cod for Thanksgiving, I turned on CBS to watch UATX featured in a leading news story of the classic TV program “60 Minutes.”
“60 Minutes” is an American institution. The series has been around longer than I’ve been alive and averages over 8 million viewers per episode.
I’m thrilled to report that CBS got it right. The story illustrates our ideals, our students' poise, wisdom, and camaraderie, and the extraordinary excitement of our inaugural academic year.
The segment, entitled “Disruptor U,” leads with the following words: “If [the University of Texas at Austin] is built around Longhorns football, the focal point of UATX is the pursuit of truth.”
It goes on to feature our founding freshmen, including exclusive interviews with Olivia Antunes, Grace Price, Dylan Wu, Constantin Whitmire, and Jacob Hornstein. Correspondent Jon Wertheim also speaks with our President Pano Kanelos, historian and UATX founder Sir Niall Ferguson, and UATX adviser Nadine Strossen, former president of the ACLU.
“Disruptor U” includes classroom footage and closely examines our origin, Convocation, and the first term.
“Applications are open for the second class,” the 13-minute story concludes. “Tuition is still free”—a reference to the four-year, full-tuition scholarships we’re offering the Class of 2029—"and so is the speech.”

Yay! So exciting to watch this! My son's best friend was on the panel (we convinced him to apply last year!) My son is envious of the college experience that his friend is having at UATX and wishes he were a couple years younger so that this would have been an option for him.
The 60 Minutes segment was very well done. Hopefully, this widely watched program made many aware of UATX and its uniqueness.
